This type of equipment is very susceptible to limescale formation, which builds up inside boilers and pipe work. This scale formation will then cause the machine to breakdown necessitating an engineer's call out and de-scaling. In addition to scale, other elements such as chlorine, dissolved organics and heavy metals present in the water can adversely affect the taste of the beverage. Chlorine also forms a weak hydrochloric solution when the water is boiled and this can cause corrosion within the coffee machine. |
